Downing Street Turns Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

10 Downing Street has been bathed in pink light for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Prime Minister said: "I'm delighted we are able help raise awareness of breast cancer, a disease that affects thousands of women every year, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Tackling cancer is a priority for this Government and we want to raise survival rates to be among the best in Europe. Early detection can massively increase the chances of survival, which is why fantastic campaigns like this are so important. I hope seeing 10 Downing Street go pink will inspire other people to get involved."

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with more than 48,000 people diagnosed and around 12,000 dying of the disease each year.

It is important to regularly check your breasts, you should look out for any of the following changes.

• Any change in the size of your breasts.
• Any change in the shape of your breasts.
• Check the texture of your breasts, is there any dimpling or puckering of the skin.
• Changes in appearance and colour of the nipples.
• Changes in the shape or direction of the nipple.
• Have your nipples become inverted.
• Is there a discharge from one or both nipples.
• Check for a rash or crusting of the nipple or surrounding area.
• Feel for lumps in the breasts.
  
• Feel for lumps under the armpits.
• Pain in part of the breast.
  

Note any changes to your GP.
